Description
1943 Lincoln Wheat Cent struck at the Philadelphia Mint (no mintmark) in zinc-coated steel, the one-year-only wartime composition adopted in 1943 to conserve copper for the war effort. The obverse shows Victor D. Brenner's Lincoln portrait with 'LIBERTY', 'IN GOD WE TRUST', and the date; the reverse carries the classic two wheat-stalk design. Steel cents are ferromagnetic, a quick check that distinguishes them from the rare 1943 copper errors. A circulated example with surfaces typical of the steel series.
